Below you'll find some of the original photograpsh that make up Be Unbroken, as well as some details of the image itself. The figures were originally a human model, but I'm only showing them as they appeared in Be Unbroken's world. Enjoy.
North Jetty, Humboldt Bay, California
These four photographs from the tip of the North Jetty of Humboldt Bay, California, are the foundation of the image Be Unbroken.
Reaching Figure
This figure was shot on location out at the tip of the Jetty in a pose that would show it gripping the Well and its rim, which were created afterword--there was no Well or rim there at the time, of course. The two figure details also show the construction of the Well's rim pretty well. I built the rim from scratch within Photoshop.
Fetal Figure
This figure was shot back in the studio. I had originally thought of the image as having a single figure, but later I thought this one would balance it out compositionally. It's the same model as the other figure... Ok, ok--I was the model!
Usal Beach Starry SkyCrowd from Reggae on the River
On the left is a shot toward the North Star from Usal Beach, about 40º North latitude along California's Lost Coast. The crowd of faces came from the 2005 Reggae On the River concert in Garberville, California.
Some Sky
The clouds that radiate outward from the celestial vortex in Be Unbroken. I found them outside Garberville, California.

From the Artwaves introduction...

Dreamtime adventures, flights of fancy, travels in thought--the unseeing observer may have nothing to report from his or her experiences with these phenomena. Such things aren’t real and have no bearing on reality.

You and I both know there is more to them than that. A lot more. Just the other day I recalled a childhood dream that had frightened me as a little boy. In a flight of fancy, I opened Photoshop and painted the image I had seen in my dream. It was a human head and shoulders silhouetted against unbearable light that flew out in rays from behind the figure. I was glad to finally have an image after all these years that I could hold and think, “Yes, that’s what it looked like, all right.”

Then later, as I fiddled with another image, my thoughts traveled to the world’s international tensions and our place in it. A Flag with a big Eye started to emerge from the pixels. That big Eye in the Flag sort of makes one think… I decided I would stick into that Eye the scary figure from my childhood dream. They do say that all things are connected.

This is a collection of images I made along my journeys through thought and fancy, dreams and subconscious passages. Pictures I took out the window. Postcards from the imagination. A slide show of the mindscape.
